US State Visit

U.S. Department of State Deputy Assistant Secretary for Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Island Affairs, Dennise Mathieu, will pay a state visit to PNG early next month.

During her 5 day visit, Mathieu will meet with government officials and civil society leaders, to underline the U.S. strategic rebalance to the Pacific Region.

She will also be the keynote speaker at the PNG Women’s Forum on March 6 and 7 to promote gender equality and empower women and girls.

Her regional tour includes visits to Vanuatu and Solomon Islands.

Ambassador Mathieu’s visit will advance the key U.S. mission priority of supporting inclusive, transparent, and sustainable economic growth in Papua New Guinea.

Dennise Mathieu is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, and assumed her position as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs on August 19, 2013.

Among her previous overseas assignments, she served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Namibia from November 2007 – September 2010, and as the U.S Ambassador to Niger from November 2002 – September 2005.
