The team, led by WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific, Dr. Saia Mau Piukala, inspected health facilities at Kurumul and other areas in North Waghi District. They were accompanied by officers from the National Department of Health and WHO staff.

Jiwaka Provincial Health Authority Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tadius Turi, welcomed the delegation and acknowledged WHO’s consistent support to the primary health care sector. He said the visit further strengthened ties and paved the way for more collaborative approaches to addressing health challenges.

Mr. Turi reported that Jiwaka has achieved outstanding results in routine immunisation coverage, crediting health officers and frontline workers across the province’s three districts. He explained that the target of 100,000 children have been successfully immunised despite challenges along the way.

Dr. Piukala commended Jiwaka’s achievement of a 99.3% coverage rate, describing it as the highest in the country. He praised the commitment of health workers, mission health institutions, and community support in ensuring the program’s success.

Before concluding his visit, Dr. Piukala thanked the people of Jiwaka for their traditional welcome and hospitality.
