Pacific Nations Must Lead the Fight for West Papua

by Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

Papua New Guinea’s Opposition Leader, Don Polye says, the fight to free West Papua must be channeled through a collaborative effort through nations in the Pacific.

Polye says, pacific nations can make a change by taking the lead through means like the Melanesian Spearhead Group and the Pacific Island Forums.

He hopes the PNG Government can take the lead for open discussions and free West Papua and stop the unnecessary killings.

Polye believes one’strong voice by island nations can be aided by Australia and New Zealand before the United Nations Assembly. “Pacific Nations can make a stand for our brothers in West Papua”, Polye added.

He added that PNG has a good relationship with Indonesia through bilateral trades, and other agreemen’s, but a more diplomatic and strategic way is needed to free West Papua.

Other parliament leaders like Vanimo Green MP, Belden Namah, Oro Governor Gary Juffa, and NCD Governor, Powes Parkop, have also been vocal on the West Papua issue.
