With the lead up to the 50th Independence Celebration, the PNG story began yesterday with the Southern Region story-telling in whole day event in Port Moresby.
The celebration at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium saw colorful cultural groups from Central, Milne Bay, Oro and Gulf performed their way of life.
While welcoming the invited guests including Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko, National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop said, it is fitting to start PNG story-telling with Southern Region as the date of destiny 16th September 1975 was witnessed in Por Moresby.
“It is from the South that we develop and gave birth to this nation. The intervention from outside started in Hanuabada and Port Moresby build this nation.” Parkop emphasized.
As stated by Governor Parkop,a date with destiny is a once in a life time celebration for some of us, so it is important to start celebrating 10 weeks ahead of 16th September.
“Let’s all celebrate together with,” the governor said.
The celebration started as early as nine am and ended at 9 pm with local artists from the region performing live.
