K2.2M SCHOOL FEE SUBSIDY ANNOUNCED FOR KAINANTU TERTIARY STUDENTS
By Vicky Baunke
A total of K8.8million has been invested as subsidiary fees for tertiary students from Kainantu in the past four years. The funding comes from the Kainantu District Development Authority to boost higher level education and equip its human resources.
This year the Kainantu Member William Hagahuno through the KDDA also announced a K2.2M continued funding. He made this known to the students and parents earlier this week.
“Everything that happened is driven by knowledge, knowledge drives change, new things, new ideas, inventions and new thinking,” Haghuno said.
He said the locals get involved in violent activities and usually burn down schools, hospitals and other government infrastructures but “knowledge is a life time investment and service to the people” that is why KDDA is subsidizing tertiary education.
He further added that the school fee assistance is not a right but a privilege for students and it will be given to all students that meet the requirements to benefit from the funding.
The program supports Kainantu students attending both recognized universities and TVET colleges throughout the country.
Representing KDDA also as a parent, Hagahuno also urged parents to support their children’s education in whatever capacity they can.
