NO MAJOR INCIDENT REPORTED

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Turi has confirmed that Christmas operations over the past few days have remained generally quiet, with no major incidents reported in the National Capital District and Central Province.

ACP Turi said while there were reports of fights in some settlements and communities, these incidents were largely linked to alcohol consumption.

He said police are doing their best to contain such situations. He also noted that road accidents have occurred in the city, with some being alcohol-related, while others may have resulted from mechanical faults or driver fatigue.

“I want to thank the police officers in the command who are working day and night, including reservists, community police officers and community watch volunteers. You are the ones helping people celebrate responsibly,” ACP Turi said.

He also thanked members of the public who have taken heed of police awareness campaigns conducted over the past few months, adding that the results were evident in the generally peaceful Christmas.

ACP Turi said he wanted the same cooperation to continue into the new year and beyond.

He urged the public to work closely with police, community watch volunteers and other groups who are committed to ensuring the festive season is celebrated peacefully.

He said a small minority causing disturbances in communities must be identified, arrested and dealt with accordingly.

ACP Turi also thanked business houses and individuals who have supported police and community watch volunteers over the past few days.

He said when police and communities work together, safer communities are created.
