INDEPENDENCE POLICE PARADE CONDUCTED IN EASTERN HIGHLANDS

THE Eastern Highlands Police have conducted its Independence parade yesterday at the National Sports Institute in Goroka in preparation for the Nation’s 50th Independence Celebrations.
The parade was hosted by the Provincial Police Commander Chief Superintendent John Kale as he addressed Police personals from all rural police stations in the province.
This included all rural police station Commanders from Obura Wonenara, Henganofi, Okapa, Lufa, Unggai-Bena, Daulo and the two townships of Kainantu and Goroka.
PPC Kala acknowledged the efforts of his men and woman in blue who have committed their services to the country going into the 50th Independence despite the challenges faced in performing Police duties.
Also, during the parade PPC Kala commemorated the past members of the force who have passed on while serving in the force for their dedication and commitment to policing services.
He noted that two of the major law and order problems faced in EHP are Sorcery related violence and Alcohol related issues.
PPC Kale went on to appeal to both policemen and women to make arrests on the two major law and order problems to ensure that peaceful 50th Independence celebrations is observed.
He said tougher Liquor ban laws have been passed within the province on the ban of alcohol during weekends and on certain alcohol beverages as an attempt to decrease alcohol related offences which also included a K1000 bail for any alcohol related offences but there continues to be drunkards everywhere.
He said police must make sure arrests are made especially going forward into the 50th Independence celebrations to ensure that there should be no drunkards during the celebrations.
Furthermore, the instruction orders for the 50th Independence Celebration police operations in the province were issued today by the PPC that would also include drunk patrol operations leading up into September.
