K20, 000 FUNDING FOR MT SION BLIND CENTRE IN GOROKA

The Mt Sion Blind Centre in Goroka has received K20, 000 funding to support its operations under the Church-State Partnership Program.
The funding came about when Minister for Youth, Religion and Community Development, Jason Peter and his delegation visited the centre last Month July 28, 2025.
Upon the visit minister Peter commends Mt Sion’s work in empowering people with special needs and acknowledged the Catholic Church’s ongoing role in supporting inclusive services.
He emphasized that every citizen, regardless of ability, deserves protection, dignity, care, and opportunity.
Moreover, a visually impaired resident presented a handwoven Bag (bilum) to Prime Minister James Marape, through Minister Peter, as a token of appreciation for the government’s support in building the centre.
Mt Sion’s Chairperson and Principal, Mr Justin Wagame, also thanked Mr. Peter and the delegates for the support and openly highlighted the center’s challenges, including limited skilled staffing and funding constraints.
Despite the challenges, Wagame said the centre continues to provide life skills, education, and care to people with special needs.
The visit followed the CDC meeting and reflects the Marape-Rosso government’s continued support for vulnerable communities.
