Sinesine Yongomugl Brothers are the champions of the 2014 Coca Cola Ipatas Cup, after beating strong rivals Bumbu Barbarians of Lae, 14-13 last weekend in Lae.
Patron and Enga Governor Chief Peter Ipatas did the official kick-off, of the game in front of a packed to capacity crowd, at the Lae Rugby League ground.

SSY Brothers were the first to score, with the conversion kick taken by Willie Guambo unsuccessful.

Barbarians retaliated with a try to Romalus Mago under the uprights with five-eight Jackson Pato, taking an easy conversion for his side to lead 6-4 into halftime.

Minutes into the second half, an improved ruck in the Brothers forward pack saw them gaining more grounds towards the Barbarians territory that resulted in a well-deserved try. However conversion by Guambo was unsuccessful, leaving the scores at Brothers leading 8-6.

20 minutes into the second half, Barbarian Jackson Pato, turned the tide around when he dived in for a Centre try, and a successful conversion for his side to lead comfortably at 12-8.

Pato later took a field goal for his side to lead 13-8. Brothers keeping their hopes alive, scored an unconverted try minutes later to trail 13-12.

Guambo took a field goal minutes into fulltime, and levelled the score 13-all at fulltime.

A 10 minutes extra time was given; Pato was charged down while attempting a field goal, and Barbarians were awarded a penalty. Penalty taken by Kerry Tapako was unsuccessful as the ball landed on Brothersโ side for a restart.

Brothers again used their forward pack to bring the ball closer to the Barbarians territory when Guambo took an easy field goal to win the game.

Brothers now claim the Ipatas Cup with K50, 000 while the Barbarians as runner-ups, walked away with K35, 000.
