US Offer Climate Change Grants

In a press statement released today, the U.S. Agency for International Development is offering grants โ€“ Pacific-American Climate Fund, worth US $24 million (about K70 million).

Civil society organizations throughout the Pacific, including Papua New Guinea, will implement climate change adaptation projects.

The grants program is called the Pacific-American Climate Fund, and grant applications.

US Ambassador Walter North said, โ€œPNG, like many other island nations, experiences extreme weather conditions, king tides, and rising sea levels.โ€ He said climate change is real and must be addressed.

The event featured training workshops for local stakeholders and civil society leaders, on how to apply for the grant opportunity.

ย 

Non-government organizations that work to support climate change adaptation measures, and reduce related vulnerabilities at the community level are eligible to apply.

ย 

Executive Director for the Office of Climate Change and Development, Varigini Badira, said climate change is โ€œa pressing cross-cutting issue, that is costing the government of PNG real economic, social, and environmental losses.โ€
