Missing Scientists: Coroner Report Out

The 3 male IMR scientists, including a crew member of the boat they travelled on, are presumed dead, while the two women and the relative of the groupโ€™s team leader, are either dead or still alive.

This is the conclusion reached by Coroner Lawrence Kangwia, from the findings he compiled during the 3 month inquiry.

ย

He has also recommended for the police to immediately set up a fresh investigation team from outside of West New Britain, to follow up on leads and suspects named, including Jerry Wani, the relative of the team leader, and take action quickly.

ย

The conclusion that the three male scientists and the crew member of the boat are dead stems from evidence available from the inquiry conducted by the team.

ย

From evidence heard and received, two scenarios were considered to be the likely cause of the demise of the missing persons.

ย

These were the possibility, that the persons met their fate in bad weather or the possibility of foul play.

ย

Based on evidence received, including the body of the boat operator, Coroner Kangwia, however, said the boat and its passengers did not perish in bad weather, pointing to foul play.

ย

He also reported that the two missing female scientistsโ€™ disappearance, appears identical, and believes they are either dead, or alive.
