Twenty PNG Defense Force officers from the Northern Region, began a 5-day leadership course today(August 20), at Igam Barracks in Lae. It is the first of two courses, to be conducted this year, using PNG’s Kumul Leadership Framework.
The course is facilitated by the PNGDF Directorate of Leadership Development, with two mentors from the New Zealand Army.
PNGDF will be using its own Leadership model, Kumul Leadership framework for the first time in this course. In past years, the PNG Defense Force had sent their officers overseas to undertake such leadership courses.
This week, twenty PNGDF officers from Lae, Wewak, and Manus, will be undertaking this bottom-top leadership course, using the Kumul Leadership Framework.
The framework is a group of behavior statements, that forms the leadership development, in the PNG Defense Force.
This course is based on the military leadership, where the Officer in Command, has to influence the officers by providing the purpose, direction, and motivation, during an operation to accomplish its mission.
The Area Commander said in the PNG Defence Force, leadership development is the Commander’s priority.
This bottom-top leadership course that began today, saw the PNGDF officers from the Northern Unit attend in civilian clothes. This is to help them communicate freely among themselves and share ideas, irrespective of their ranks.
The course will end on Friday this week.
