The fight over the land where Koki informal market is built continues between the people of Moresby South and South Waghi MP, Joe Koim.
Community leaders at Koki are not easily giving away the land and have called for an investigation into the land title.
Moresby South MP, Justin Tkatchenko, says there is evidence that the land was acquired illegally.
“The records of the land title with me clearly states that the land belongs to National Capital District,” Tkatchenko said.
“I’m not sure how this particular Member of Parliament got the land title under these circumstances which shows that the survey was not carried out before the title was issued,” he added.
The Moresby South MP says he will join his people to make sure the land remains for the Koki community.
MP Tkatchenko also stated that many other land areas in the electorate are also going through court battles with cases of fraudulent land titles given by the Department of Lands.
Vendors at the informal market told EMTV News, the market helps them sell their goods to support their lives. They say the land title must be further investigated.
