Teachers Analysis Reports Launched

By Meleasie Goviro – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Head representitives of 12 teachers colleges nationwide gather in Port Moresby this morning to participate in the launch the first Teachers Needs Analysis Report.

Present to officiate the event was Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, the Minister for Education, Malakai Tabar, and David Kavanamur, Education Research Science and Technology Minister.

Since the implementation of the Tuition Fee-Free Policy in 2011, the teacher-to-student ratio has increased from the standard 1 teacher per 29 students to a distressing 1 student to 59 student’s ratio.

The aim of these analysis reports therefore was to enhance the student quality output by essentially upgrading teacher training.

The Analysis commenced following complaints made by Teachers’ Colleges on the level of training standards, lack of infrastructure and the quality of training provided at different teachers colleges.

It falls in line with the governments drive to up-skill teacher trainings at primary school levels.

Each college was officially presented a copy of the report.

They are expected to utilise these to identify key weaknesses and improve appropriately.
