Dawn raids this morning aconducted by the Madang police have seen twelve suspects arrested and detained following last week’s armed robbery of K100,000 and the willful murder of a Malaysian man.
The twelve suspects were rounded up on raids to the Pana and Bilia Islands, and at the Mambu market on mainland Madang.
Officer in charge of criminal investigations in Madang, Detective Inspector Steven Yalamu, said one of the suspects is an escapee who is said to be involved in a series of robberies in Madang town. He has been charged for the Biabi Wharf robbery, as well as escaping custody.
He also said that another suspect arrested this morning is wanted for the robberies of Biabi Wharf and Martin Tsang supermarket, which he has also been charged for.
The twelve suspects have yet to be charged as yet for last week’s events, with further questioning being undertaken prior to charges being laid.
According to Detective Inspector Yalamu investigations are still continuing with more than 10 witnesses already having been interviewed, with more to be interviewed this week by police.
