By Vasinatta Yama – EM TV News, Mt Hagen

Enga Teachers College is facilitating the roll out of the Standard Based Education curriculum in the country for teachers in Enga Province.
The College is facilitating a week-long ‘Trainer the Trainer’ program for Primary School teachers in the province.

The training started on Monday and will end on Friday this week.
Head Teachers and senior teachers of Primary schools in Enga Province gathered at Enga Teachers College this week for the training.

The ToT training is for teachers to fully understand the concept of Standard Based Curriculum, so that they can go back to their schools and in-service their colleagues.

The concepts are that, the teachers must understand the practical aspect of the Standard Based Curriculum, the reason behind shifting the Outcome Based Curriculum to SBC, and fully understand the syllables.

The teachers were trained about the sets of standard they need to know to implement in the classroom.
These are:
• the National Education standard
• national curriculum standard
• content standards
• performance standards and
• assessment standards

Once they understand the syllabus, they can be able to plan, program, teach and assess their students.
Under the standard based curriculum, assessment is an essential part of student’s learning and prosperity.

These teachers where trained on standards that the National Education Department sets to assess students.
The teachers can now be able to set daily and weekly overview of what needs to be taught in classrooms.

Enga Teachers College Principal, Michael Homingo, says teachers need to be in-serviced or trained at all times to be updated on development changes.
Homingo says this will benefit the students learning capacity.
