Snax Tigers and Hela Wigman into Semi Finals of Intercity Cup

by Skola Sengi – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

Snax Tigers and Hela Wigman have cemented their spots in the 2015 Intercity Cup semi-finals set for this Sunday.

Wigman’s chances of defending the cup were on the line last weekend, after suffering a defeat in Round 16 to the Simbu Lions. Their determination did not go undeterred against Hagen Eagles on Sunday, as they defeated the Eagles 14-10 in Mendi.

Mendi Muruks travelled down to Lae to face minor premiers Snax Tigers for the second semi-final qualifier. Hundreds of fans were turned away, and the match deferred to Monday due to a heavy downpour of rain.

The deferral did not hinder the hunger of either side. With the game locked at 10 points all iater 80 minutes, the match was forced into extra time.

Minor changes off the bench saw both teams relying on the experience of their players to get them over the line. In the dying minutes of extra time, David Loko kicked field goal between the posts to break the dead lock for the Tigers, and score a 11-10 win.

The Tigers will now take on Simbu Lions in Kundiawa, while Hela Wigman will travel to Kokopo to meet the Agmark Gurias in the respective semi-finals this Sunday.
