SME gone a step futher

Efforts to grow Small to Medium Enterprises have gone a step futher withthe introduction ofthe ‘Know About Business’ or KABe an entrepreneurship education.

The concept is being taught to students’in some oPNG’s secondary and tertiary institutions to impart innovative businesses plans to students’

The ‘Know About Business’ concept was introduced in PNG in 2006 bythe Small Business Development Corporation or SBeC.

SBeCthen introduced it to thirty five schools acrossthe country to equip students’with skills that could helpthem ifthey don’t find a job in corporatPNG.

SBeC announced that students’and teachers studyingthe KABeconcept have a chance of being awarded for the first time.

The KABeaward is also new and it recognizes students’who demonstrate an ability to develop good business plans.

There are currently twenty one thousand plus students’studying KABe

SBeC Acting Director Henry Marasembi saidthey are now working withthe education department to have KABe ntrepreneurship education inthe national school curriculum.

Meantime, SBeC will be introducing a Youth Business Award and Small Business Enterprises Award next year.

These awards are performance based recognizing new and existing businesses and howthey’ve improverd overtime.
