Rebels Reign Again

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill today launched the initiative that involves officials from PNG and Pacific Islands who will discuss best practices of preventing, detecting and prosecuting financial crimes.

The 3 day capacity building initiative kicked off on a high note this morning despite the cold weather in Port Moresby.

Participants included officers from Police, Financial Institutions, Fraud Squad, Financial Intelligence, Government Departments, entities and the private sector.

When addressing the participants, British High Commissioner to PNG Jacky Barson said, the training will pave way for transparent governance and investment trust.

Director of GovRisk, Dominic Le Moignan, added that their aim is to equip local authorities with tools and skills to tackle illicit practices in the most effective way.

The keynote address was given by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill before launching the training.

Mr O’Neill said corruption is a threat to PNG’s democracy.

The training will concentrate on addressing and combating financial crime and Public Procurement Fraud.
