Kramer: Madang Internal Audit Uncovers Questionable Spending in last 5 years

The Madang District office is in its final stages of conducting a 5 year internal audit into how the DSIP grants for the last 5 years were spent.

Member for Madang, Bryan Kramer, says the audit will be finalized in the next two weeks, and a report will be provided to the public.

Kramer said they have uncovered that just under K60 million was spent through the Madang District office for the last 5 years.

The findings revealed a lot of funds have been spent on a number of projects. The Madang District office is still trying to establish if some of these projects were genuine.

Mr. Kramer said they have also uncovered that a significant amount that is extremely questionable.

The findings also found that some officers in the district were paid between K3,000 and K5,000 per month, while others were paid per fortnight.

Meanwhile, a lot of the expenditure has also gone to hired vehicles, hotel rooms and airfares to and from Port Moresby.

The findings has also uncovered that the funds were also spent on paid armed police escorts out of Port Moresby.
