Over two hundred homeless children and youth were fed and given clothes today (October 28), through an initiative of the Murray Barracks Seventh Day Adventist Church.
With support from China Railway Construction Limited and Premium Fashion, the church not only reached out to the children but to their parents, including the elderly.
The feeding program is under the church’s yearly activity for children.
Staff from China Railway Construction Limited joined members of the Murray Barracks SDA Church to serve the homeless children and their families.
Children Ministry Leader, Alice Nasu, said the turnout was surprising as they were only expecting children.
She said the huge turnout reflected the high number of homeless people roaming the streets of Port Moresby.
Three weeks ahead of the program, church members walked the streets of Port Moresby to hand out invitations to the any beggar they came across.
Mrs Nasu said with support from Premium Fashion and China Railway Construction Limited, the church would organise a bigger program in the future.
There were smiles all around for the children, their parents and other homeless people who turned up today.
This was probably a decent meal they had had in ages.
