An awareness program will be held in Port Moresby by the Papua New Guinea Fire Service on June 7. The awareness will be a training program about the Australian Inter-service Incident Management System (AIIMS).
AIIMS, a management system, engages the relevant skill sets and resources of various agencies and expertise from different sectors, including businesses and industries to manage and control emergencies or other events of that nature.
This special training will enhance the capacity of PNG Fire Service to contribute to the work of the Community on Safety and Security (COSS) for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit (APEC) in 2018.
Delivered by the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, the awareness training will aim to:
Present to participants the basic understanding of principles and processes involved with AIIMS and its adaption and use it in emergency incident management.
Provide a standard approach to incident management across single and multi-agencies involvement.
Enable partner agencies to better understand the important roles they play.
Help agencies to identify ways in which they can interact with each other and the Fire Service during emergencies and disasters.
The program is designed for senior managers who are in charge of making strategic decisions during emergency events on behalf of their organisations including other events that would require multiple agencies to respond.
Sponsored by European Union, the program will have its other two phases carried out in other parts of the country in coming months.
