SettlementInitiative: Erima Development Center

A settlement community inthe Nation’s Capital has incorporated a community group to deal with issues affectingthem.

Todaythe Erima Settlement launchedthe Erima Development Centre, an initiative by community lLeadersto usethe Centre to voice issues affectingthe community and to find ways to addressthem.

Erima Settlement isthe first to create an initiative such as this. The main objective ofthe association atthe moment is to bring water supply intothe community.

Water inthe area runs only for a limited time. When it does come,the people packthe drains to fetch water and take baths as fast asthey can beforethe water is turned off.  

Lawrence Malo Executive Officer to Eda Ranu in his speech saidthe community has to form such groups asthese and work withtheir elected members to bring water intothe community. He saidthere is a project already in place to bring water intothe settlement known asthe water upgrading project. He said Erima will be next to benefit fromthe project.

Mark Stallard, secretary ofthe Royal Golf Club and Isaac Matai, third Secretary fromthe Australian High Commission thankedthe community for inviting him, saying he was happy to work withthe group and thatthe initiative was a good one.

The Erima Development Centre is incorporated and registered undertheInvestment Promotion Authority.
