Powi boosts Southern Highlands Police

Police presence and performance inthe Southern Highlands Province have been boosted following a major financial assistance from Governor William Powi.

One Million kina will go towardsthe recruitment of more police personal inthe province while K400, 000 will go to police in Poroman for logistical purposes.

He said if law and order is not maintained development cannot take place.

Police Commissioner Tom Kulunga acknowledgedthe funding and called on members of Parliament to dothe same.

He saidthe police do receive support from Members of Parliamentobut it must come throughthe office ofthe commissioner so that it can be utilized in an accountable manner.

Governor Powi said Law & Order was a priority underthe Southern Highlands Development Master Plan, and this funding was necessary to ensure law and justice was maintained.

The Southern Highlands Development Master Plan will be launched bythe Prime Minister next week.
