Oil Palm Growers Plead for Govt Assistance

By Jack Lapauve Jnr – EM TV, Kimbe

Village oil palm growers in the Buvusi area of Mosa LLG in West New Britain Province are calling for the quick release of relief aid from the government.

Homes, food gardens and oil palm trees were destroyed following heavy rains and strong wind. The extent of damages are still under assessment and review by the Provincial Disaster Office in Kimbe.

The areas affected include Galai, Navio and parts of Kavui in the Mosa LLG of West New Britain Province.

The growers called for water bottles, and other necessary aid to help their families. School children have also missed classes, as homes were destroyed.

The oil palm growers called on New Britain Palm Oil Limited and the West New Briatin Provincial Government to assist with seedlings to help replace the palm trees that were destroyed by the strong winds.

The national government has yet to release the K10 million allocated for disaster affected provinces. West New Briatin will be a recipient.
