Training to Improve Police Investigating Skills

By Colleen Barilae – EM TV News, Port Moresby

18 police officers from NCD command are undergoing an investigative training program being conducted by the Australian Federal Police (AFP), on the process involved with investigating a crime.

The training is aimed at improving police investigators skills in building up a case to present in court.

The week long training will cover standard investigation techniques.

Those present at the police investigation workshop include police investigators, constables and a few others. AFP is training them to adapt to the standard investigation techniques applied when solving crime scenes.

This will support them to provide valid evidence when presenting a case before the courts.

It comes as criminal cases are sometimes dismissed from court due to insufficient evidence being provided in police statements.

Some police investigators have said that many crime cases are covered, but only a few are pursued in court with valid information.

They say the training gives them an insight into how a standard investigation should be carried out on crime scene cases.
