PNGDF to Provide Security for Gulf LNG Project

The national government launchedthe Civil Military Relations Concept in Kerema town yesterday.

 

Defense Minister Doctor Fabian Pok saidthe concept desires freedom and embracesthe universal accepted governance model, whilstthe Gulf Governor Havila Kavo saidthere are high hopes it will be operational beforethe production phase ofthe Gulf LNG Project in 2014.

Members ofthe provincial government,the defense minister, and defense council signedthe MOU and launchedthe People first project.

 

Minister Pok said this cooperation program isthe first of its kind arranged bythe national government,the Defense DepartmentoDefense Council and a Provincial Government.

 

Followingthe signing and launching ofthe People First Projectoa unit fromthPNG Defense Force will be based inthe Gulf Province to provide security for the 2nd LNG project and ther resource projects towardthe overall socio-economic development inthe province.

 

Doctor Pok said once provern successful, similar projects will be rolled out for ther provincial governments.

 

The minister saidthe civil military relations conceptoin essence, was to provide for government a socio-economic facility in partnership with resource-rich provincial governments. Gulf Province isthe pilot project.

 

Governor Havila Kavo saidthe cooperation program will assistthe provincial government to achieve its 2020 Vision of healthy and wealthy Gulf Province.

 

Mr. Kavo saidthe province will undergo major infrastructural and social development inthe next 5 to 10 years, andthe concept is timely and will greatly assistthe provincial government achieve all its dreams.

 

The Commander Beigadier General Francis Agwi accompanlied by his wife andthe staff fromthe Defense Departmentojoinedthe people to withness and celebratethe launching ofthe People first project andthe signing ofthe MOU.
