PNG Defence Force warns Politicians

Politicians have been warned not use the Papua New Guinea Defense Force (PNGDF) for their own gain.

Dr. Pok's warning comes after several PNGDF personnel were involved in recent political events.

He directed that a stern warning be issued immediately by the new commander to soldiers who misbehave. The for politicians not to interfere with the Papua New Guinea Defense Force.

The force is a public institution and should be allowed to function without interference to maintain peace and stability in the society.

He says, the Papua New Guinea Defence Force is poised for change this year.

The government has allocated K30million to maintain all barracks houses and another K10million to buy white goods for PNGDF houses throughout the country.

Mr. Pok says there is money also available to relocate the murray barracks

Due to land grabbing a surveyor has been contracted by the Papua New Guinea Defence Force to survey all PNGDF land which will then be managed by a trade company to prevent land theft.

All this is part of the governments’ ongoing efforts of improving the image of the PNGDF.

Commander Colonel, Gilbert Toropo, pledged his commitment to work with the government to achieve this.

In the meantime, the official handover parade of the new commander will be on the 31st of this month.
