PNG Barramundis to Miss Out on Pacific Games

By Quinton Alomp – EM TV, Port Moresby

Papua New Guinea’s national cricket team, the Hebou PNG Barramundis, will not take part in the Pacific Games this July, but an alternate team will be selected to represent the country.

The national cricket favourites are scheduled to play in the T20 World Cup qualifier in Ireland, scheduled for the same month as the Pacific Games.

They will miss out playing on home soil but captain Chris Amini said the organisers will select a team, initially called the ‘A team’ to represent the country in the Pacific Games competition to be held in Port Moresby.

“I am confident the ‘A team’ will do well for the country,” Barras captain Chris Amini told EM TV.

He said the team is scheduled to partake in the World Cup qualifier, the same month as the Pacific Games.

Port Moresby Cricket Association chairman, Dean Ani said the final men squad and the team’s name is yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, Papua New Guinean cricketers are looking forward to strong competition from Vanuatu and Fiji during the Games.
