FIRST LANDING AT TAZON AIRSTRIP CONNECTS YUS COMMUNITIES TO GOROKA

Morobe Province Yus LLG President Jonah Epemu has arrived safely in Goroka aboard a Mission Aviation Fellowship, MAF, flight from the Yus, Teptep, Airstrip.
The flight marks another important step in improving air access for remote communities in Kabwum District. President Epemu also witnessed a major milestone with the historic first test landing at the Tazon Airstrip in Wandabo on 28 July 2026.The successful MAF landing is the result of years of vision, community effort, and partnership.
Honoring the Past, Building the FutureThe Wadabong/Tazon Airstrip was first envisioned by the late Epemu Kiwenu, founding President of Yus LLG, who mobilized local communities to lay its foundation.
The project was later revived and completed under the leadership of Patrick Basa, MP for Kabwum, through the Kabwum District Development Authority, KDDA.
President Epemu extended heartfelt thanks to God for safe travel, and to Patrick Basa and KDDA for funding and delivering the project.He also acknowledged MAF for its reliable service to Yus and other remote parts of PNG, and the people of Ward 9, Wadabong/Tazon, and surrounding communities for their hard work and sacrifice.“Development is a continuous process built on the efforts of many people over many years,” President Epemu said.
“As we celebrate this milestone, we must also honour those whose vision and leadership made it possible.
“On behalf of the people of Yus, the LLG reaffirmed its commitment to working with partners to improve access to health, education, government services, and economic opportunities.
