Over 200 Police and Prison Officers for Simbu Elections

There will be over 200 Police Personnel and Prison Officers from the Western Highlands Province travelling to the Simbu Province on Saturday to provide security during polling and counting.

Today the Provincial Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Martin Lakari hosted their parade before sending them away.

The security forces were urged to uphold the law at all times.

The 253 officers will first go to  Kundiawa and then travel to the Jiwaka Province.

Police and warders in other Provinces were deployed to Mt Hagen and other Provinces in PNG to ensure the 2017 National Election is trouble-free.

The PNG Defence Force and Mobile Squads will be in the 21 Provinces, but will act as response Units.

There is also heightened emphases on the awareness of sexually transmitted diseases.

The security personnel were also advised to avoid getting ill while on duty.

PPC Lakari urged them to be cautious about their activities and focus in providing security for the election.

Today at the parade, PPC Lakari warned the Security forces not to escort ballot boxes or associate with candidates.

The ballot boxes will only be escorted by the response units from PNGDF, Correctional Services and Mobile Squads.
