The Olsem Wanem team visited the Pacific Marine Industrial Zone project impact communities in Madang Province.
There are many issues of discussion and the people are now urging for relevant government authorities to go into communities to face the people, and tell them what their plans are for the project.
They are also not happy about forming Incorporated Land Groups (ILG’s) which they claim the government is forcing them to form, without them fully understanding the ILG concept.
The locals further claim that as a result of being forced to form ILG’s, traditional clans within the impact communities are having frictions amongst themselves and this has caused disharmony in the villages…
