New Zealand’s national women’s team, the Football Ferns, arrived in Port Moresby today on the eve of the first leg of their Olympic qualifiers with Papua New Guinea.
New Zealand Coach, Tony Readings, has said that preparations for the squad have been good, having played Brazil in November last year as a lead up to their match with PNG.
Many of the players in the team took part in the OFC Women’s Nations Cup in Rabaul, in 2014. The team has been together for a couple of years, but many have gone to play in other countries.
Readings said with the return of the girls, they have brought experience from all over the world to help build the team. Readings also said their match against Papua New Guinea will be tough, but they are prepared.
The match will be played at the PNGFA Lae Academy and not at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium or Sir John Guise Stadium here in Port Moresby.
Readings said even though there were issues with venues due to short notice, they will play anywhere for the love of the sport.
