For many Papua New Guineas, last nightthey were at home with family to welcome inthe New Year. Unfortunately for those inthe hospital, the moment was not shared withtheir family and friend.
To bringthe feeling of home closer, the staff of National Capital District Commission paid a visit to patients at Port Moresby General Hospital yesterday afternoon.
The group was led by wife of NCD Governor Powes Parkop, Jean. Parkop.
Mrs Parkop has been supportive of her husband, conducting many charity drives in recent months.
She said yesterday was part of that ongoing program to supportthe needy, and lend a hand.
Patients shared home cooked food, fruits plus a gift bag from Colgate Palmolive which contained small items.
Mrs. Parkop’said patients would be spendingtheir new year’s eve atthe hospital, so it was fitting for them to bring a taste from home and put smiles on some faces.
She was pleased withthe cleanliness ofthe hospital and thankedthe management for the new look tothe wards.
Funding for this purpose came from a small portion ofthe Governor’s discretionary funds.
Mrs. Parkop tookthe opportunity to remind everyone aboutthe importance of healthy eating habits to avoid lifestyle diseases.
This was in support of NCD Governor Powes Parkop’s message on a complete buai ban inthe new year.
