NCD Students Optimistic for 2015 Academic Year

By Eric Haurupma (UPNG Journalism Student) – EM TV, Port Moresby

Students across the NCD welcomed the 2015 academic year yesterday with a strong commitment to focus on learning.

Students are optimistic that in pursuit of their studies, academic interest is a priority for them.

This 2015 academic year has resumed as per the scheduled time of Monday 2nd February 2015.

Like other schools in the country, schools within NCD resumed smoothly yesterday.

Before 8am, students attending various schools in NCD came prepared to officiate the opening of the school year.

Students in their distinctive school attire gathered in numbers along pavements outside school classrooms, waiting for the administration response for the assembly.

They greeted each other, shook hands, and with laughter waited for an official announcement by the administration.

Student leaders of these schools welcomed the new and old, and direct them to duty teachers who were confirming their names.

They said doing two things coincidently is a daunting task. However, they are optimistic that budgeting their time wisely will help a lot with their studies.

Despite the lingering holiday fever, the resuming of this academic year marks a new chapter in their education curriculum.

“To set priorities right and achieve their predetermined goals and objectives, students have officially resumed classes today”.

While schools in the country are benefiting heavily on the government subsidy from the tuition free fee policy, they will be expecting a larger intake of students this year.

To embrace and comply with Education Department policies in January 2015, teachers have signed their summary duty resumption forms to officially resume their duties.

This academic year will be a challenging year for students because there will be extracurricular activities.

Meanwhile, NCD teachers have encouraged their students to take their studies seriously.
