The National Airport Corporation (NAC), under its Civil Aviation Development Investment Program (CADIP) signed four contracts today, marking a significant milestone for the NAC.
The projects include aircraft pavement strengthening and the manufacture and supply of airport rescue and fire fighting vehicles for selected airports.
With its goal of supporting economic growth and safety, NAC, in partnership with the Asian Development Bank, PNG government and other stakeholders awarded four contractors to deliver their services.
The contractors are Global Construction, China Harbour Construction, Shorncliffe and Oshkosh.
The contracts were signed for aircraft pavement strengthening and upgrading of Vanimo, Girua in Popondetta, and Chimbu airports.
The contracts also green light the manufacture and supply of nine airport rescue and fire trucks to Nadzab, Hagen, Tokua, Wewak, Madang and Goroka airports.
The combined value of the four contracts is K132 million.
Apart from the construction and projects, on-going maintenance work is also supported, which involves small urgent pavement works that are required to keep the airports operational until funding is available.
All these projects are under the nine-year Civil Aviation and Development Investment Program 2010-2017.
