The decision to refer Madang MP, Bryan Kramer, to the Parliamentary Privileges Committee was based on sound legal advice.

Speaker of Parliament, Job Pomat, made these remarks when addressing the media.

Whilst brushing aside accusations of bias, and undue influence from the Government, the Speaker said it was indeed a sad day for democracy following the actions taken by the Opposition to walk-out of Parliament.

Speaker, Job Pomat, called a media conference on Friday afternoon (June 1st) to provide clarity into the decision to refer Madang MP, Bryan Kramer, to the Parliamentary Privileges Committee.

According to Mr Pomat, the decision had been reached following consultation with Parliament’s clerk and legal team.

The Speaker also brushed aside accusations of government influence in reaching the decision to refer the Member for Madang.

According to Mr Pomat, the day marked a sad day for democracy, with what transpired on the floor of the house.

Whilst a date for the Parliamentary Privileges Committee meeting has not been set as yet, the Speaker is confident in the ability of the Committee to be impartial in its hearings.
