Residents at the Morobe Block outside of Port Moresby were educated by trained representatives from the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) on how to deal with social issues in their community.
These issues include gender based violence, law and order, education and health, waste management, women and youth empowerment.
The delegates received a rousing welcome at 8 Mile by traditional dancers who led them into the arena.
Speaking during the event, members of the NCDC Community and Social Services Department have been active in talking about core problem areas.
The initiative taken by NCDC to address social issues in the community is one of a kind.
This was depicted in a drama show put on by the youth.
Community leader Atope Bapa said to combat these issues, they have formed an association called the Morobe Block Community Association.
In addition, a women’s and youth desk will be created at the NCDC offices to empower these groups. This will target illiteracy rates and law and order problems caused by youths.
