More than 150 vocational school teachers from across the country will undergo a one-year Diploma of Vocational Education and Training In-service Program in Port Moresby.

This program will be conducted on a fly-in basis where the participants will meet in Port Moresby only during school term breaks.

These vocational teachers are tradesmen and women, who are experts in their field but lack teaching qualification

The Diploma of Vocational Education Training In-Service Program hosted by the PNG Education Institute will qualify more than 150 vocational teachers from across the country.

The participants will acquire a diploma in vocational education and will also be recognized by the Education Department.

Zui Neofa, the PNGEI Director said that this program is very important because the country now needs competent vocational teachers to teach primary and secondary school leavers.

About 120 teachers graduated last year, from the DOVET program. The new intakes for this year will graduate mid-next year.

The program is funded by the European Union under its Human Resource Development Program Phase 2.
