The long cry struggle forIndependence by West Papuan Melanesian was one key issue discussed atthe 19th Melanesian Spearhead Group LLeaders-MSG; Summit held in New Caledonia.
Deputy Prime Minister Leo Deon speaking atthe summit’said Papua New Guineamaintains its position recognising West Papua as an integral part ofIndonesia.
This year,the West Papua National Coalition for liberation appllied for membership.
Mr Dion sain PNG respectsthe sovereign right ofIndonesia’s Republic rule over West Papua.
PNG’s founding fther Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare wasthe chief guest atthe MSG meeting, marking its of Silver Jubilee.
Sir Michael’saidthe meeting was an avenue for lLeadersto discuss with wisdom and arrive at a gainful conclusion onthe West Papuan issue.
Meantime,the Front de Liberation Nationale Kanak Socialiste -FLNKS has taken overthe MSG chairmanship from Fiji lead by Victor Tutugoro.
PNG will also hostthe 2014 MSGInvestment Roadshow and Trade Fair.
RAMSI to withdraw in Solomon Island
Also inthe MSG meeting, The Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands or RAMSI will be withdrawn starting July 24.
RAMSI assistance would remain on policing activities and this would be done in a bilateral level.
An independent review would be undertaken to establish whther Solomon Islands hadthe capacity in areas of assistance.
