Lae Family escapes Death After Tree Falls on Home

Nine families living in a rental property at the 3-mile settlement escaped death after a large tree fell on their house in the early hours of yesterday morning.

About 30 people including children lived in the rental house.

Property owner, Thomas Konilinus, said strong winds last night caused the tree to fall.

Thomas Konilinus is a contractor attached with the Lae City Council.

Konilinus says, there was strong winds around 4 am yesterday morning, that had caused a Kapok tree to fall on his house while his family and tenants were asleep.

They were all lucky no one got hurt.

However, his dump truck and part of his house were damaged. The truck, parked in front of his house, saved about 30 people including children  who were sleeping inside the house and prevented what could have been a tragedy.

Meanwhile, Morobe’s disaster office says families or people who are involved in such minor cases should or must make a report and to the Lae District office to confirm the report.

The Lae District office will then notify the Disaster Office of the incident.
