Orphanages in the Nation’s capital are requesting support and funding from the Government.
This was made known in the parliament today when Governor for NCD Powes Parkop directed several questions to Lae MP and Minister for Community Development, Youth and Religion, Loujaya Kouza.
Governor for NCD Hon. Powes Parkop raised concerns about the number of children on the streets and the request of funding from orphanages created in the nation’s capital.
The questions were directed at Member for Lae and Minister for Community Development, Loujaya Kouza.
Governor Parkop wanted to know the Government’s stand on the issue and if there were funds available.
In response, Minister Kouza stated that orphans or homeless children under the Lukautim Pikinini Act were adopted by relatives and should not be left on the streets.
She also added that the government did not have a legal framework for orphanage in the country.
Minister Kouza says her department will set up a task force team of capable women to also address this issue.
