Easter operations for police in Jiwaka Province turned ghastly, leaving one person dead.
Police vehicles were travelling in a convoy, coming up Nondgul back- road to Banz, when the first vehicle ran off the road, and hit a by-stander.
The person was rushed to Kudjip Nazarene Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.
Jiwaka Provincial Police Commander, Joseph Tondop, today confirmed the incident.
Speaking to EMTV by phone, Jiwaka Provincial Police Commander, Joseph Tondop, said a male in his late 20’s was hit by a police vehicle.
PPC Tondop said the Western Highland traffic unit is investigating the accident, but hinted that the vehicle may have had some faults with its breaks.
Easter operations for Jiwaka started off last Thursday afternoon, with no major incidents reported, said PPC Tondop.
He said the accident was unfortunate for both the police, and the relatives of the deceased.
The traffic office from Western Highlands is investigating the accident, and PPC Tondop, said if the driver is found to be at fault, he will be held to account.
Western Highlands police have confirmed that a unit from the province is investigating the accident.
Easter operations for Jiwaka province were generally peaceful, of which the PPC thanked the public in Jiwaka, for respecting Easter by keeping it peaceful.
