TheInternational TrainingInstitute has been accredited as a Provisional Higher Education Service Provider.
This was announced bythe Minister for Higher Education Science and Technology David Arore on Wednesday.
It is step forward in making education affordable to majority of school leavers inthe country.
TheInternational TrainingInstitute located at Badili Port Moresby has been operating as a private educational service provider for 14 years and has turned out over 2000 graduates.
The provisional status accorded tothe institution is part ofthe governments’ initiative to enhance public private partnership.
Mr. Arore’saysthe public institutions alone cannot cater for the growing number of graduates yearly.
Last year a record 17, 000 grade 12 students’graduated. Only 4, 000 were accepted, leaving 13, 000 students’onthe streets.
The situation is dire and can get worse ifthe government does not address it inthe coming years.
The Minister also demanded Universities inthe country to audittheir curriculum.
IT is grateful ofthe recognition fromthe government and plans to expand its operation to ther centers to cater for the growing demand for quality education.
A permanent status will be accorded tothe institution once all audits are completed bythe Commission for Higher Education.
