Today marks the International day of Peace, a significant day which is observed by the 193 member countries, of the United Nations.
This year’s theme highlighted the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals which is adopted by the member countries last year.
For Papua New Guinea, the UN is involved in promoting peace and the support of human rights in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, through the implementation of the Bougainville Peace Agreement.
The day is observed worldwide to also promote equal opportunity for women and girls through UN organised activities.
This year’s celebration is dedicated to peace, absence of violence and hostility.
