Indian President to Visit PNG

President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, will be visiting Papua New Guinea this week, accompanied by India’s Minister of Food Processing Industries, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, and a government delegation comprising of members of parliament.

Spokesperson of India’s External Affairs, Vikas Swarup, in a briefing with local reporters said that this will be the president’s first state visit to PNG.

President Mukherjee’s state visit to PNG will begin on Thursday, April 28.

According to New Delhi Television (NDTV), the president is expected to sign several agreemen’s that will seal cooperation between PNG and India in the fields of education, health, connectivity, economic cooperation, agriculture and dairy farming.

“A number of areas of cooperation between India and PNG are in the process of finalisation in the fields such as health, infrastructure development, capacity building etc.,” Swarup said.

The Indian delegation will leave PNG for New Zealand on April 30.
