Central Governor, Kila Haoda, has congratulated Team PNG athletes on their successful participation at the recent 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
He congratulated gold medalist weight lifters, Dika Toua and Steven Kari from Hanuababa, for their successful win of gold medal awards in Glasgow Scotland, in the Commonwealth Games.
Governor Haoda said he was very proud of Toua and Kari’s participation as Motuans among the rest of the members of Team PNG.
He said winning gold at the commonwealth games was a reminder of the famous Hiri-Lakatoi trade exhibitions to Kerema in the Gulf Province where people went on a voyage and were expected to return with sago to share with the rest of the community.
This time, it is Team PNG bringing back the good news from Glasgow, and in particular, the achievements of the two Motu Koitabuans with two gold medals for Papua New Guinea from the games.
The success of the two places the nation, PNG, on the commonwealth and most importantly, the world map, where we will be compared on an equal path with world competitors in the Sport arena.
This is a very joyous occasion for athletes, their friends and families and the country on the whole.
