Fraud office temporarily shut down

By Theckla Gunga – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Police Commissioner, Gari Baki, has ordered the temporary closure of the National Fraud and Anti-Corruption Directorate (NFACD) as of this afternoon.

This follows a National Court decision to stay the suspension of NFACD Director, Chief Superintendent Mathew Damaru.

Baki said the office will be closed until accountability is restored. He confirmed that locks to the office have been changed.

“All their firearms will be confiscated and vehicles will be impounded,” Baki said.

With this now being the case, all fraud officers will be reporting to the Assistant Crimes Commissioner, Victor Isove.

“My decision to temporarily close the office is to maintain the integrity of the Commissioner’s Office,” Baki said.
