The United NationsProgram on HIV and AIDS says ending violence against women is critical to ending AIDS.

Today half of all people living with HIV are women and every minute one young women is infected with HIV.

This trend can be reversed if women and girls are free to reachtheir full potential—without fear of violence from men.

Meanwhile, onthe eve oftheInternational Womenrsquo;s Dayhe world has been urged to take action to end violence against females.

More than one hundred and twenty five countries have specific laws that penalize domestic violence, a historic number, yet six hundred and three million women live in countries where domestic violence is still not a crime

According tothe United Nationsup to seven in ten women globally will be beaten, raped, abused, or mutilated intheir lifetimes.
