One electorate in the new Jiwaka Province has gone a step further to promote transparency and accountability in the use of its district funds.
Anglimp South Waghi electorate launched its 2013 project implementation magazine last Friday in Port Moresby.
The 32-page magazine outlines most projects implemented from 2012 to 2013.
Titled “Dawn in Angswagi”, this new magazine will assist the district to disseminate information on its projects.
Speaker of the 09th National Parliament, Theo Zurenuoc, on behalf of the government, commended Joe Koim for this initiative, and said the magazine would serve as a medium to inform people of the many projects the member has undertaken in his time as MP.
He also said the product will account for the district’s money, and added that the government needed to tighten up the reporting systems so there is more accountability.
He said the current accounting system used by the government, PIGAS is rigid and makes it difficult to generate good reports and queried whether the acquittals provided to the Department of Rural Development were a true representation of the spending done by individual members of parliament.
The magazine was then launched by the speaker. On hand to witness the launching were development partners of the district, elites and other people from Anglimp South Waghi.
